THE BACKGROUND

Career and background

Verratti grew up in the Pescara football system and became a leading young player during the club’s 2011/12 promotion season. Pescara won Serie B and returned to the top division after 19 years. He moved directly to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2012, before turning 20, following a promotion-winning campaign in Italy.Source: FIGC ↗

His Paris career lasted eleven seasons. By his departure in 2023, he had made 416 competitive appearances and won 30 trophies, including nine Ligue 1 titles. He became a defining midfielder of that period through close control, short passing and an ability to build attacks from deep positions. PSG also reached the Champions League final in 2020 during his time at the club.Sources: beIN SPORTS ↗ · FIGC ↗

Verratti made his senior Italy debut in August 2012 and scored his first international goal against the Netherlands the following February. He played at the 2014 World Cup but missed Euro 2016 through injury. The next European Championship brought a major triumph: he was part of Roberto Mancini’s side that beat England in the Wembley final in July 2021.Source: FIGC ↗

A move to Al-Arabi in September 2023 began a new phase in Qatar. He remained in the country when Al-Duhail signed him in July 2025. The club announced his arrival as an experienced addition to its midfield, and its current first-team roster lists him as number 6. His professional life is now based in Doha after more than a decade in France.Sources: beIN SPORTS ↗ · Al-Duhail SC ↗ · Al-Duhail SC ↗
