Career and background

Griezmann’s route into professional football took him away from France early. After several French clubs declined to sign him, Real Sociedad scout Éric Olhats spotted him at a tournament near Paris when he was thirteen. There is a Portuguese football connection on his mother’s side of the family. His grandfather Amaro Lopes played for Paços de Ferreira before moving to Mâcon in France with his wife Carolina in 1957.
