Children’s author and former educator

Ulla Sandrock is a German children’s author who publishes under the name Ulla Klopp. She co-wrote Tom und der Zauberfußball with Dietmar Brück; the original book was published by Herder in 2008. Publisher biographies describe her earlier work in education, including leading a boarding school in Nairobi. She is married to football coach Jürgen Klopp. Their family includes her son Dennis from an earlier relationship and his son Marc from his first marriage.

THE BACKGROUND

Career and background

Sandrock worked for many years as an educator before becoming known for children’s fiction. The publisher biography for Tom und der Zauberfußball records that she led a boarding school in Nairobi. Co-written with Dietmar Brück and illustrated by Iris Hardt, the book follows a boy who discovers a magical football. She has accompanied Klopp at football occasions while maintaining a comparatively private profile. In an April 2022 interview with Liverpool FC, he explained that a conversation with her at home helped begin the process of extending his contract.
